
Assistant General Manager | Austin
Position Overview:
Exciting new concept are seeking an experienced and dedicated Assistant Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about hospitality, with a strong background in managing upscale dining experiences. This role involves supporting the General Manager in overseeing the daily operations of our restaurant, ensuring exceptional service, and maintaining the highest standards of quality. The Assistant Manager will work closely with both the front-of-house and back-of- house teams to ensure smooth operations, efficient systems, and an outstanding guest experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Staffing & Talent Management
- Recruitment & Hiring: Identify, recruit, and onboard top talent to build a team that aligns with our commitment to service excellence.
- Screening & Interviewing: Conduct comprehensive evaluations, including reference checks, and collaborate with the family office for background verifications.
- Onboarding & Training: Manage onboarding processes for FOH and BOH staff, including administrative duties for systems such as Sling, Toast, and Insperity.
- Facilitate FOH training to prepare employees for their roles effectively.
- Employee Relations: Serve as a primary point of contact for employee concerns, fostering a positive and collaborative workplace environment.
- Performance Management: Address employee performance with constructive feedback, manage disciplinary actions, and resolve workplace issues.
- Terminations: Conduct professional offboarding processes, ensuring systems and platforms are updated accordingly.
Operational Leadership
- Scheduling: Create and manage FOH schedules using Sling, ensuring optimal shift coverage.
- Pre-Shift Meetings: Lead daily briefings to communicate updates, service goals, and motivational directives.
- On-Floor Management: Oversee service operations to uphold hospitality standards, including:
o Guest Engagement: Interact with guests to ensure satisfaction and promptly resolve concerns.
o Quality Control: Monitor food and beverage presentation, including color, texture, and consistency.
- Sanitation & Hygiene: Ensure compliance with health and safety standards across all service areas.
- Operational Resources: Oversee inventory management for tools, office supplies, and operational needs.
Technology & System Management
- Toast Platform Management: Update menus, manage employee accounts, and troubleshoot system issues.
- Scheduling Optimization: Utilize Sling to streamline staff scheduling processes.
- Bar Inventory: Manage bar supply orders, including equipment and alcohol (excluding wine).
- Entertainment Coordination: Assist live performers with logistics, setup, and complimentary arrangements (e.g., band credits).
Communication & Coordination
- Leadership Communication: Maintain timely and clear communication with the leadership team regarding operational updates and policies.
- Parking Logistics: Coordinate distribution and updates for parking passes.
- Vendor Management: Maintain supplier relationships, ensuring timely deliveries and resolving discrepancies.
Guest Experience
- Service Excellence: Represent the FOH team to ensure every guest enjoys a world-class dining experience.
- Issue Resolution: Address service issues and guest complaints professionally and empathetically.
- Operational Presence: Maintain visibility on the floor during service, optimizing flow and addressing needs in real-time.
Team and Operational Support
- Team Leadership: Provide guidance, training, and support to FOH staff to ensure cohesive team performance and exceptional service delivery.
- Customer Service: Lead by example in providing top-tier hospitality, promptly addressing guest concerns and ensuring a positive dining experience.
- Operational Systems: Implement and refine procedures to enhance efficiency and maintain quality standards.
- Financial Oversight: Assist with inventory, purchasing, and cost control to align with budgetary goals.
- Menu Collaboration: Partner with culinary and beverage leadership to maintain innovative and high-quality menu offerings.
- Compliance and Standards: Ensure compliance with health, safety, and cleanliness standards, adhering to all legal regulations.
- Event Coordination: Support special event planning and execution to enrich the guest experience.
- Payroll Management: Assist in preparing payroll through Toast and Insperity, ensuring accuracy and compliance with labor policies.
Work Environment & Hours of Operation:
- Environment: Luxury restaurant and speakeasy setting with a focus on excellence, collaboration, and discretion. The role involves working in a fast-paced environment requiring adaptability, attention to detail, and high professionalism
- Hours of Operation: The AGM schedule will be coordinated with the General Manager and aligned with business needs.
o Tuesday - Wednesday 6:00 PM- 12:00 PM
o Thursday – Saturday 6:00 PM – 2:30 AM
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of experience in a similar role in fine dining establishments.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with a focus on team development.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
- Experience with inventory management and basic financial oversight.
- Passion for hospitality and delivering exceptional customer service.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and be on your feet for extended periods.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, including weekends and holidays.
